Our food

What is gently cooked fresh food?

It's real food, cooked the way you would at home. We use fresh, human-grade muscle meat and offal, vegetables, fruit, seeds, quality oils and natural minerals. The meat is steam-cooked at 90°C, and the vegetables and fruit are only blanched to protect heat-sensitive vitamins.

There's no extrusion, no high-temperature processing, no fillers and no artificial preservatives, flavour enhancers or attractants.

Is it a complete food?

Yes. Every Fresh Menu is a complete, balanced feed, so you can feed it on its own every day. Most of the nutrients come straight from the fresh ingredients, with a small top-up of vitamin D and trace minerals where a recipe needs it. These are listed on each product page.

We still recommend rotating between flavours once your dog has settled in, because a varied diet is the most natural way to cover everything a dog needs.

Where do your ingredients come from?

All our ingredients are fresh and human-grade, from suppliers to the human food chain, and sourced from Europe.

Who makes it?

We make every recipe ourselves in our own pet food kitchen in Poland, built to home-cooking standards, so we control quality from start to finish. Every batch is checked before it leaves the kitchen.

Fidelis started in 2016, when Christian began cooking for his dog Pippa. Today we cook for more than 100,000 dogs across the UK and Europe.

Who developed the recipes?

Our menus were developed with Anita Kröger, a holistic vet and founder of the Centre for Canine Health. She specialises in nutrition and in intolerances, allergies and digestive problems.

How is it different from dry food, tins or raw?
  • Dry food is usually extruded at high temperatures from grains, meat meals and hardened fats, with vitamins sprayed on afterwards.
  • Tinned food is often made from by-products and sterilised at 110–140°C in metal tins.
  • Raw food uses fresh ingredients but can carry bacteria such as E. coli, which is a risk for dogs and for people handling it.

Our Fresh Menus use fresh ingredients like raw feeding does, but they're gently cooked and sealed in glass. You get real food without the raw-meat risk and without needing a freezer.

Why glass jars?

Glass doesn't affect the taste and leaves no metal or plastic residues. It reseals and is easy to recycle. Each jar is sealed and sterilised, much like baby food in jars, so it keeps in the cupboard for 12 months without preservatives.

Choosing a recipe

Which flavours do you offer?

Our Fresh Menu jars come in 11 recipes built around 9 proteins: Beef; Chicken (two recipes); Pork; Salmon; Duck; Turkey; Rabbit; Lamb; Goat; and Horse. Each product page lists the full ingredients and nutrition.

My dog is fussy. Which should I try?

Our mixed packs are the easiest way to find a favourite. Each one contains one jar of six different recipes:

My dog has a sensitive tummy or allergies. What do you recommend?

Each recipe is named after its main protein, so it's easy to avoid one your dog reacts to. If your dog is sensitive to common proteins, our Mixed Selection Variety leaves out chicken, beef and pork. Our goat, horse and lamb recipes are good options for dogs that need a novel protein.

Check the full ingredients on each product page, because some recipes also contain rice, buckwheat, peas or brewer's yeast. If your dog has a diagnosed allergy or medical condition, please check with your vet before switching.

Is it suitable for puppies?

Our feeding guide covers puppies: feed about 4% of their body weight a day up to 8 months old. Switch slowly, as you would for an adult dog.

Can it help my dog lose weight?

Fresh Menus contain no fillers or hidden calories, and every jar lists its energy content, so it's easy to portion accurately. Feed for your dog's target weight rather than their current weight, and count treats in their daily total. If your dog is very overweight or has a health condition, speak to your vet for a weight-loss plan.

My dog has a medical condition. Can they eat it?

If your dog has a condition such as pancreatitis, kidney disease or diabetes, or is on a prescription diet, please check with your vet first. Each product page lists the full analysis, including protein, fat, fibre and energy, so you can share it with them.

Feeding & storage

How much should I feed?

As a starting point, feed per day:

  • Puppies up to 8 months: about 4% of body weight
  • Dogs up to 15kg: about 2–3% of body weight
  • Dogs over 15kg: about 2–2.5% of body weight

For example, a 20kg dog at 2% needs about 400g a day, which is one jar. These amounts are for healthy, active dogs that haven't been neutered. Needs can vary by up to 50% with age, breed and activity, so adjust to keep your dog at a healthy weight.

For a portion tailored to your dog, try our feeding guide and calculator.

How do I switch my dog to Fidelis?

Switch gradually over 5–7 days, mixing a little more Fresh Menu into your dog's usual food each day. Stick to one flavour for the first 7–14 days, then rotate if you like. Some dogs are fine with every flavour from day one, so let your dog's digestion be your guide.

Can I mix it with dry food?

Yes. Lots of owners use Fresh Menu as a topper. Just reduce both foods in proportion so your dog isn't overfed.

Do I need to keep it in the fridge?

Not until you open it. Unopened jars keep in a cool, dry cupboard for 12 months, so you don't need a fridge or freezer. That also makes them easy to take on holiday. See the best-before date on the lid.

How long does an opened jar last?

Reseal it, keep it in the fridge and use it within 3–4 days. There are no preservatives, so treat it like any other fresh food.

Can I freeze it?

Yes. Opened food can be frozen, but never freeze it in the glass jar, because the glass can crack or break. Spoon it into a freezer-safe container or bag first.

Can I warm it up?

Yes. Transfer it to a bowl first (never microwave the glass jar), warm it gently and check it isn't hot before serving.

How do I recycle the jars?

Rinse the jar and put it in your glass recycling. Check your council's guidance for the lid.

Ordering & subscriptions

What sizes do the jars come in?

Each jar is 400g. Jars come in protective boxes of 6, and you can order packs of 6, 12 or 18. Larger packs work out cheaper per jar.

How long will a box last?

A 20kg dog eats roughly one jar a day, so a 6-pack lasts about 6 days. A 10kg dog eats about half a jar a day, so a 6-pack lasts around 2 weeks.

How does Subscribe & Save work?

Returns & help

Can I return my order?

Yes. You can cancel for any reason within 14 days of receiving your order. Items must be unopened with the seal unbroken, because for health and hygiene reasons we can't take back opened food. Email hello@fidelisdog.co.uk to let us know, then send the items back within 14 days. You pay the return postage unless the item is faulty.

We refund the price you paid to your original payment method within 14 days of getting the items back, or of receiving proof that you've sent them. The extra cost of Express Delivery isn't refunded. Full details are on our Shipping & Returns page.

What if my order arrives damaged?
